In the first episode of our new series with Paradigma, called the “Green Talks: The Voice of Ecology and Environment”, with Sezen Kaya-Sönmez from Kadir Has University, we are joined by Prof. Rita Floyd from University of Birmingham to recap the political events that took place in 2022 within the scope of environmental security.

Dr. Rita Floy, University of Birmingham

Dr Floyd has been in University of Birmingham since April 2012 when she was appointed Birmingham Fellow in Conflict and Security. Before then she was a British Academy Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of Warwick and before then an ESRC post-doctoral fellow. She received her PhD in 2007 from the University of Warwick. Her PhD was published in 2010 by Cambridge University Press as Security and the Environment: Securitisation theory and US Environmental Security Policy. It appeared in paperback in 2014 and it was translated into Chinese in 2021. Dr Floyd’s second monograph is called The Morality of Security: A theory of Just Securitization. This book was  published in 2019, also by Cambridge University Press. The book appeared in paperback in September 2021. This book was shortlisted for the Susan Strange Best Book Prize in 2020. Dr Floyd is currently working on her third monograph, provisionaly titled: The Duty to secure: From just to mandatory securitization.

Sezen Kaya-Sönmez, Ph.D. Candidate

Kadir Has Üniversitesi Sezen Kaya is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in International Relations at Kadir Has University. She has completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in International Relations at Çukurova University. Her research interests focus on environmental security, climate security, climate change, and Copenhagen School

Erman Ermihan, Kadir Has University

Erman Ermihan is a PhD student at Kadir Has University, Department of International Relations. After completing his undergraduate education at the same department at Istanbul Bilgi University, he received his master’s degree in Political Science from Sabancı University. His research interests include Turkey-European Union relations, Turkish Foreign Policy and identity and emotions in foreign policy.

Senem Görür, Kadir Has University

Senem Görür was born in Istanbul in 1996. Görür received her undergraduate degree from Istanbul Okan University, Department of International Relations (English) in 2019. After her undergraduate education, Görür continues her studies at Kadir Has University, Department of Political Science and Public Administration. In addition to her academic studies, Görür is currently working as a reporter at Medyascope TV. Görür, who is mainly interested in foreign news on Medyascope TV, prepares and presents a weekly program called Kordiplomatik. Görur’s areas of interest include Turkish political life and political communication.
